President & Chief Executive Officer
Michael Ioannou has been in his current position as CEO of Akrion Systems since March 2009. Most recently he held the position of Chief Operating Officer of Akrion, Inc., serving in that capacity starting in July of 2007. He played an instrumental role in the transition of the company to its current ownership and industry status both in the Semiconductor and PV Solar markets. Significant challenges had to be overcome that allowed the company to survive the 2008 recession and the associated ownership changes. Michael joined the semiconductor industry in 1999 holding various executive positions in Engineering, Product and Technology Development and Customer Service in Factory Automation, Ion Implant and Electron Beam technology. Prior to joining the Semiconductor industry he had a long and successful career in the aircraft industry both in the US and Canada. Michael holds a MBA from the City University in Seattle, Washington and bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Applied Science in Aerospace from the University of Toronto in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
W. James Whittle
Chief Financial Officer
James Whittle serves Akrion Systems as Chief Financial Officer. He was most recently CFO for Akrion, Inc. with that company since 2005. He has over 20 years of experience as chief financial officer for capital equipment and consumer oriented manufacturing companies, serving in positions for companies such as National Diversified Sales Inc., where he was CFO, which during his tenure doubled in size through acquisition and organic growth; Data Switch Corporation a NASDAQ listed public company where he was CFO and President; and Sterling Fluid Products, a privately held manufacturing company that grew from $60 million to $275 million during his tenure. Experienced in international business and speaking several languages, Whittle has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from North London Polytechnic and is certified as a Chartered Management Accountant in the UK and is an International Associate of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Ismail Kashkoush, Ph.D.
Vice President, Applications and Technology
Dr. Kashkoush is responsible for managing Akrion Systems Process Engineering Department and Class 1 R&D laboratory. In his role, he also maintains the technology road map and provides technical support for product development. Dr. Kashkoush holds 25 patents in the field of wafer surface preparation science and technology. In addition, he has published and coauthored more than 65 articles in the area of microcontamination characterization, removal, and control. Dr. Kashkoush conducts regular seminars on wafer surface preparation technology for the IC and solar industries. He received his PhD in engineering sciences from Clarkson University (Potsdam, NY) in 1993.
